Letter #10, January 15, 2153

Travis received some bad news this past week. He found out his father had died. Because of the nature of their work, the two men hadn’t seen each other in some time. Travis felt his father didn’t approve of his Starfleet career, so he had some unresolved issues and regrets by not talking with his dad one last time. I thought of you and your decision to go see your father, to mend fences. Life, even Vulcan life!, is too short – you have to value what you have, especially family, so you don’t have regrets.

Sorry to sound so pensive.

When you were traveling through space, did you or members of your crew continually get kidnapped, or your ship or person taken over by aliens? Seems like every week we have to rescue the ship from some alien threat or dart across the universe at top speed to find one of our missing. I’m all for first contact, but couldn’t we meet one species not out to get us?

In between crises, however, I was able to take an of R&R with the Captain. Of course, it ended on kind of downer because of one of those misunderstandings we keep having, but the break was enjoyable. It was good to spend quality time with such a close friend.

On the entertainment front, I have decided against sharing my love of movies with others. People either complain about the choices I make, talk throughout the film, or twist the movie to make humans look like monsters, full of suspicion for outsiders or those who are different. Why can’t people just kick back and appreciate the story? Why all the angst over what should be an enjoyable social occasion?

I’m beginning to feel like a failure as a host – first my luncheon and now my choice of entertainment is found lacking.

Interesting idea you have about time travel. “Haven’t I heard that the Vulcan Science Directorate has determined time travel to be impossible?” Yeah, I guess I have heard that one or two times. Kov, were you doing the Vulcan equivalent of laughing when you wrote that? You may be spending far too much time with humans – you’re turning into a regular comedian.

Well, here’s hoping there are no surprises around the corner for a few weeks.

Later.

Trip

If I were to chartthe emotion portrayed in your letters it would be a wavy line, with peaks and valleys. That's exactly how we correspond in life. Some letters are more emotive than others, some are more humourous, yet running through them is a thread of consistency, which is your interpretation of Trip. Excellent series. Looking forward to #11

Loved this just wish it had been longer! I loved the idea of Trip calling Kov a comedian, look whose calling the pot black? Well done and keep up the good work! Ali D :~)

I'm really enjoying this series, myst. You've written a lot of wonderful insights about Trip, and even about Kov. The letters are very realistic, and mirror Trip's experiences wonderfully.

Keep up the great work!
