Chapter Three

Trip contacted Enterprise for the final time before he entered the cloud.

“About three hundred meters from it, sir. Sensor’s can’t penetrate the cloud,” Trip informed.

“Understood, Commander,” Jon replied. “Just, get in, get the scans and get out.”

Trip nodded his head.

“Understood. Passing through the cloud now,” Trip said, seconds before the channel went dead.

Trip flew the shuttle pod on a direct course, towards what he hoped was the comet.

In minutes he had found it, barreling straight for a stalled starship!

“Oh my….,” Trip stated.

Just before the comet hit the derelict vessel, the vessel moved aside and the comet went whizzing by.

Trip watched as the vessel moved up along side his pod.

Trip was just about to try contacting them, then realized that was useless. He tried scanning the vessel but the scanners didn’t pick it up. It was like it wasn’t there!

Trip looked around as the whole shuttle was filled with this brilliant, white light. The surprised engineer had enough time to shield his eyes before he was beamed off the pod.

Captain Archer watched as the pod entered the cloud. Like a lamb to the slaughter, he thought.

Jon sat down in his chair. There wasn’t much else he could do at the moment, except wait.

Fifteen minutes later Trip hadn’t come back, and Jon was getting a little worried.

T’Pol finally spoke. “The comet is passing out of the cloud.”

Jon looked for himself. Sure enough, the comet had left and was continuing on its course.

“Where the hell is Trip?” he asked.

“It is logical to assume he is still making his way back to Enterprise,” T’Pol stated.

Suddenly the cloud started to glow white from the inside. Then just as soon as it had started, it stopped.

Jon blinked trying to clear his eyes. “Am I seeing things?” he asked T’Pol.

She checked her sensors.

Jon looked outside. The shuttle pod had just come out of the cloud, but it had stopped.

“I am not picking up Commander Tucker’s signature,” T’Pol informed.

Jon returned and checked sensors himself. Oh great, he thought Commander Tucker is missing. Perfect.
