Chapter Four

Trip let his arm drop.

The light had faded suddenly.

He found himself in a darkened room. The only light came from a few candles that were on top of a table, laden with food and weapons.

Trip walked closer to the table, he picked up an old knife and studied it.

Rust covered small portions of the blade.

Trip jumped as a door appeared in the darkness. Three figures walked through.

One of the figures bowed and withdrew the veil covering her face. She was a girl. Twelve to thirteen years old.

“Master. I am so glad to see you return,” the girl began. “My name is Xerion. I am yours.”

Xerion bowed again and returned to her place.

“What the heck are ya talkin’ about?” Trip asked.

Xerion spoke again.

“Hundreds of years ago it was prophesied that a messiah would come to save our people. Through years of careful study, we have finally found him.”

Trip sighed, he now understood.

“Who do ya think I’m, him?” Trip asked the girl.

“The prophecy describes you in detail. Light of hair, tan skin. Alien. He will be from the race who call themselves humans,” Xerion replied.

“Still, that’s not what I call proof,” Trip shot back.

“It has a name spelled out. No one can translate it, but it is said that the messiah could,” Xerion said as she withdrew an old, wrinkled scroll.

She handed it to Trip, who carefully unrolled it and read it.

“The messiah will come from the stars, bearing the power of your people. He will be light of hair, tan skin. Alien. He will be from the race who call themselves humans. He is the third child of the Tucker clan.”

This was impossible!

“We have watched your ship since it entered our system. We know you to be our savior.” Xerion said.

“What power, I don’t have any power!” Trip said.

Xerion didn’t seem to hear him. She motioned for Trip to follow her.

Trip left the darkness of the chamber and followed the child through the door.

Xerion turned and watched the door disappear.

“That is your private chamber,” she told him.

Xerion guided Trip down the huge flagstones all the way to the Temple.

Trip followed open mouthed. The place was huge. Trees full of fruit were everywhere, springs that gushed forth water were placed around the city.

Trip walked up the steps to the Temple and looked in.

People were milling around, some lay on the ground, dying. Others were trying to comfort them.

Trip saw that most of the sick were children. Children of all ages.

“I don’t know what to do,” he told Xerion.

She turned to face him.

“Use your powers to heal them. Lay your hand upon them.” Xerion said sadly.

Trip walked in and knelt down beside a small, thin boy who was shaking violently.

“Please help.” The boy begged.

Trip looked down and saw the mass of blood covering the boy’s side.

After looking over the wound, Trip decided the boy couldn’t last much longer.

Trip reached out a hand and touched the wound. A brief light shone through Trip’s hand as Trip jumped back.

The boy’s wound was healed!

“How the heck did I do that?” he asked Xerion.

Trip had never had that power before.

“The power has been inside you ever since you were conceived. Now on this planet, you can unleash your power,” Xerion said.

“How do you know all this stuff?” Trip asked her.

“My mother is a priestess. She taught me how to look at the past, present and future and to know,” Xerion said with conviction.

It was all a little confusing for Trip.

“Why here? Why can’t I use this power on other worlds too?” He asked.

“This planet has been praised by the gods. They granted that the old powers could be used here.”

“I still…” Trip paused.

“You will have to go to the Master of the Power. He lives on the mountain. If you want to use your powers off planet, he can teach you how,” Xerion said as she pointed to the mountain.

Trip looked up. He would go there.

“What about my friends on Enterprise?”

“If you wish it, they will be brought here.” Xerion said.

“Yes, I wish it!” Trip said.

Xerion bowed. “Very well, I will find you when they have arrived. Feel free to wonder around the city. There are all ways friendly people willing to help you if you get lost. Everyone is glad that you are back with us.”

Xerion bowed again and left.

She’s so young and she acts like she’s in her twenties!

Oh well.

Trip looked around and chose a direction. He wandered around for a few hours.

He found that without knowing it he had walked to the foot of the mountain.

Trip was about to turn back when he saw this old man motioning him onward.

The man walked down and took Trip high up into the mountain.
