Chapter Seven.

Trip sat up on the bio bed, while Dr. Phlox scanned him.

“I tell ya, I’m fine.”

“So it seems, Commander. Though you will have a small bruise on your rib from the fall, but nothing too major.”

Trip was about to say something else when Jon walked in.

“How’s Trip?” Jon asked.

“Oh, He should be fine,” Phlox answered.

“I can speak for ma self you know, doc,” Trip said.

“How about Malcolm and Ensign Holmes?” Jon asked.

“Ensign Holmes is dead, Captain. He died thirty minutes ago. I was amazed that the acid that was on the Ensign’s body, just disappeared once the Ensign died,” Phlox said.

“What about Malcolm?” Jon asked.

“He is in critical condition,” Phlox said.

“I want to see him,” Jon said.

“I don’t think that would be a good idea,” Phlox replied.

“Now!” Jon ordered.

Phlox nodded and took Jon and Trip through a screen.

Trip saw Malcolm immediately.

His face was all bloody and he was hooked up to all sorts of machines. The arm that had gotten the acid on it was in some sort of preserving liquid. Jon looked in and his face turned a shade paler.

Trip walked past him and also looked in.

All of Malcolm’s arm that was left was the white bone, but the bone was already showing signs of the acid’s progress.

“Captain,” Malcolm whispered.

“Lieutenant. How are you feeling?” Jon whispered back.

“I feel nothing,” Malcolm’s cracked lips said.

Dr. Phlox drew Jon away, leaving Trip to look at Malcolm.

“Sir, the rate at which the lieutenant is going, he will be dead in two hours. I need the cure from Mr. Smith and I need it soon,” Phlox said.

Jon looked at Trip and Malcolm. “I’ll see what I can do,” Jon whispered.

He approached Trip and Malcolm. “Trip, I’m going to need your expertise.”

Trip nodded.

Anything to get me out of this room. Trip thought as he followed Jon out of sickbay.
