Chapter Three

Jon squinted in the dim light of the planet. The snow was blowing all around him and he constantly had to keep clearing his eyes. The sun was a dull grayish yellow gleam. Most of the falling snow blotted it out.

Jon walked back into the cave where the rest of the crew had set up camp.

“Anything sir?” Travis asked him.

Jon shook his head. “Nothing except the blowing snow.”

They all heard a loud bang and a curse and they all looked up to see Trip Tucker slumping down next to the shuttle.

Jon walked over to him. “Any luck, Commander?” Jon asked.

Trip shook his head. “These pods aren’t movin’ again, Cap’n.” he said matter-of-factly.

Jon nodded. When they had entered the planet’s atmosphere two hours earlier, Jon was blinded by the snow. He ended up crashing every single shuttle.

“Trip, we have to get at least one shuttle out of here!” Jon exclaimed

Trip shook his head. “Sorry, Cap’n, everythin’s shot!”

Jon sighed. “Alright, thank you Commander.”

Trip nodded.

Shron sat in the command chair of the NX-01 as he listened to the reports. The impulse engines were repaired but the warp drive was still off-line.

Shron also learned from Andorian intelligence that the humans crashed on the planet, which the Andorians had nicknamed “Frozen Wasteland.”

Everyone who ever lived on that planet died within days because of the never ending snowstorm.

Shron turned as Shran entered the bridge.

“Well done, my son. Your men are fast,” Shran praised.

Shron nodded and bowed his head. “Thank you father.”

Shran stepped up to stand beside his son. “What I want you to do next is to go to the Wasteland and bring me Captain Archer. He will want some of his own men with him, so allow him to bring two.”

Shron jumped up, “But, father!”

Shran glared. “No arguments, just do it!” Shran nearly yelled.

Shron sat back down and spoke to the helmsman. “Set course for the Wasteland. Speed warp 4.2,” Shron ordered.

Everyone turned to look at him.

“Just do it!” Shron said.

“Sir,” an Engineer said. “The warp drive is still off-line. We can’t go to warp.”

“Go as fast as this ship can go in impulse!” Shron barked out.

Everyone turned back to their stations. In seconds Enterprise started moving again.
